I want to build a robot that can follow lines and choose path, i.e walking on a floor with horizontal and vertical lines, I will use 8051 microcontroller in my circuit, I just don’t know how to choose a good sensor that can detect light and dark color under different light condition such as sunlight, spot light…..
I also need to find a suitable motor and driver that is not very expensive.
Hope somebody can help me, thanks.

Hi
You can use an LED to light the space between 2 photo transistors or photo diodes to generate the direction to turn (turn towards the darker side) use a flashing LED circuit and filter it for best results in different light levels. Also you will need an analog to digital converter to condition the signal for processing by the MCU
For a cheap drive you could use the Tamiya twin motor/Gearbox combination. It is available at hobby shops and is only about US$12.
